UNASIS brand zirconia, ZrO2 or zirconium dioxide, bearings are stabilized with yttrium oxide which increases the bearing toughness, strength and fracture resistance. Zirconia bearings are unique when compared to other ceramic bearing materials as they have a similar coefficient of thermal expansion to that of stainless steel. This comes in handy when the application is operating at a high temperature. This allows the mechanical system to expand and contract at similar rates if the shaft and housing are made of stainless steel. Bearing engineers at Carter can support fits and tolerances at the bearing application engineering design phase.
Like other ceramic bearings, Zirconia bearings operate well in high and low temperatures, have corrosion resistant properties and are non-magnetic and non-conductive. They are particularly well suited to offshore applications but react poorly to prolonged contact with steam or hot water. Zirconia bearings do not perform well in hydrofluoric acid.
UNASIS brand zirconia bearings are available in all popular metric and imperial sizes. Many varieties are available from stock or on competitive delivery times. Deep groove ball bearings, angular contact, self-aligning, roller and custom designs are all available upon request.
