A ball staking tool is used with a chamfered bearing and a sharp-edge housing. This tool is for use with a hydraulic, mechanical / arbor or pneumatic press. The ball staking tool does not spin, it simply provides indentations into the housing using force. These carefully engineered indentations will deform the ductile housing material onto the bearing thus locking it into place.
A common process specification is Method 300 of NAS0331 or Boeing’s BAC5435.
