Carter Manufacturing Ltd, specialising in precision bearings, deeply value projects that inspire and mentor future engineers. They exemplify this commitment through their sponsorship of the ‘Launch Canada 2023’ competition. This partnership, with the inaugural project's success, is led by CARTER AMERICAS, their US-based facility, supporting 'Launch Canada' on a non-profit basis.
Carter's expertise in crafting and providing cryogenic bearings has been invaluable to the Launch Canada Group. This guidance aids aspiring engineers in achieving eco-friendly aircraft launches. Erick Sloan, the Chief Operating Officer at Carter Americas, stated, "We are providing bearings for a LOX-Kerosene engine built to withstand severe conditions, including contact with Liquid Oxygen (LOX) in the turbo pump. Meeting extraordinary performance standards in extreme environments demands advanced bearing engineering expertise, exceptional manufacturing capabilities, and superior materials."
The Launch Canada 2023 competition took place in September in Timmins, Ontario, drawing 18 student teams and hundreds of attendees. Supported by industry sponsors like Pratt & Whitney and MDA, along with government figures and representatives from top Canadian and International associations, the event witnessed remarkable engagement. Adam Trumpour, a Propulsion Specialist at Launch Canada, expressed, "We have notably broadened our endeavors this year, collaborating with Mattagami First Nation to host a sequence of outreach events for local students, featuring model rocket launches. For the students, it marked their foundational participation in the aerospace industry, showcasing their rocket engine projects. Among them, a 9000 lb thrust LOX-Kerosene engine accomplished two 10-second hot firings, setting a new world record as the largest student-built rocket engine tested yet." The event garnered significant media attention, including a feature by CTV News Canada.
Carter Americas concentrate on expanding in the North American market, offering a variety of products like Motorsport Spherical Plain Bearings and Rod Ends, Custom Aerospace Bearings, Hybrid and Ceramic Bearings, Lightweight Slewing Rings, High Temperature Bearings, Bearing Tools, and Custom-Made bearings.
